Fin & Feather

Whether you're looking for a one-man tent for a solo journey into the wilderness or a spacious home away from home for a family adventure, we have you covered (and protected from the elements!). Headed out for RAGBRAI? We've got your gear. Visit our outdoor enthusiasts in the camping department for a tour of what's on-hand.

There are many things to consider when purchasing a new tent!

  • Size: Are you planning to camp with multiple sleeping bags in one tent? You might want a larger family-style tent with a screened-in vestibule attached. If you're camping with 1 other person, or your dog, we have smaller options, all the way down to the super-minimalist bivy sack.
  • Headroom: If you're looking to stand up in your tent, you'll want to look for something with a larger "peak height."
  • Rainfly coverage: Rainflies help keep out moisture on dewy mornings or full-on downpours. They also aid in keeping heat in the tent. Some rainflies offer full coverage, while others keep ventilation high with roof-only coverage.
  • Packability: How small your tent packs down to is an important factor to consider when space is an issue, such as when backpacking or traveling by motorcycle.
  • Ventilation: More mesh panels will allow more fresh air into the tent, but won't keep you as warm in the evenings.
  • Accessory: Footprints for tents help protect your tent from rocky or uneven ground. They are designed to match the size of your tent, and extend the life of your tent by keeping the rocks and sticks from beating up the bottom of your tent. Specifically-cut footprints are preferable to a standard tarp because they don't stick out around the tent, which allows for water to collect and pool under you.
  • Accessory: Gear lofts provide you with extra storage room for your gear without having everything underfoot. While tents do have a few storage pockets, gear lofts can be helpful in smaller tents where floor space is limited.
